On March 19, 2026, in observance of World Water Day, educational tours of the wastewater treatment plant began, as is customary, for second-year middle school students from the municipalities of Santa Croce sull’Arno, Fucecchio, Santa Maria a Monte, and Castelfranco di Sotto, as part of the “Amici per la Pelle” project.
On the opening day, approximately 60 students from lower secondary schools in Santa Croce sull’Arno and Staffoli visited the treatment plant. The initiative continued through the end of May, gradually involving all students from the aforementioned schools.
The project aims to raise awareness among young people about circular economy issues, highlighting the fundamental role of water treatment within the leather production cycle.
To mark the occasion, an exhibition was also inaugurated at the treatment plant, featuring works created during the school year by students from district schools participating in the “Amici per la Pelle” project. The exhibition remained open for the entire duration of the educational visits, complementing the educational activities conducted at the facility.
